I was on a call today with my mastermind group. The topic was "self worth" and we were all doing an exercise that involved closing your eyes and picturing a the times and activities that make you feel best about yourself.
What were you doing?
For me, some of it was obvious. I feel good when I finish things. I feel good when I make/write/do something I'm proud of. I love that feeling of a tangible result.
Related: When asked what my "super power" was at a recent speed networking session, I blurted out that I was a manifester, with the ability to "make something from nothing." I don't even know where that came from, but it felt right and it still does!
But back to the exercise...
Some of the things that popped up for me were surprising. I wrote down that I feel good when I'm taking care of myself. Sleeping enough. eating well. Getting exercise.
So why do I always put my own (physical) needs last? I wouldn't condone any of you do that, and yet it's what comes naturally.
Like so many women my age, I've been programmed to put others first. And there are only so many hours in the day. Not nearly enough when I'm on a deadline and trying to get my book through a final edit and out to ARC readers!
I'm still sitting with that exercise, though. And tomorrow I may be taking a walk with it, making a salad with it, and taking my vitamins with it too.
